Dr. Ricardo Obando moved from Ecuador at a young age and has lived in Florida his entire life. He graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.98GPA) from Florida International University in 2016, receiving his Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. After being accepted into multiple Universities, he chose the University of Florida (UF) to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist.
While in dental school, Dr. Obando grew a fond admiration for the field of endodontics (root canal therapy). Dr. Ricardo attended the endodontic literature review courses with the endodontic residents every week for two-years before graduating. While most dental students were taking their scheduled week vacation breaks, Dr. Obando would stay in Gainesville, to assist the residents at the Endodontics Department at UF. If Dr. Obando was not assisting the residents, he would travel to other programs in the nation to shadow and expand his endodontic knowledge. In 2020, Dr. Obando received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Florida. Although no dental student from UF had been accepted directly from dental school since 2018, in 2020 the Endodontics Department granted Dr. Obando a position in their residency program. During residency, Dr. Obando was elected by his faculty and peers as Chief Endodontics Resident. Dr. Obando received his Master's of Science degree with a focus in Endodontics from the University of Florida in 2022.
Dr. Obando has a keen understanding of modern endodontics including endodontic microsurgery (apicoectomy or root surgery), endodontic therapy (root canal), endodontic re-treatment (re-treating previous root canals), diagnosis of odontogenic/non-odontogenic pain and trauma. Dr. Obando is Board Eligible, as he has successfully passed the written portion of the board certification process and is on track to becoming board certified in the near future.
